Sunflowers with adequate oil content and quality were grown in Zala County, but the average yield was lower than expected due to the droughty weather – the county president of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) told MTI on Wednesday.

On an area of almost 8,000 hectares, an average of 2.7 tons of sunflowers were produced per hectare, while farmers expected 3 tons of crops in August. Last year, the average yield of sunflowers was 2.85 tons in Zala County – Sabján Krisztián explained.

He added that the county has started harvesting corn on nearly 30,000 acres. The average yield of 9.3 tonnes per hectare harvested on 640 hectares is well above last year’s 8.62 tonnes. (MTI)
