The amount “expected” by pensioners has increased significantly
In order to narrowly manage everyday life after retirement, an average of nearly HUF 240,000 would be needed per month, according to the K&H recent, middle-aged, secure future survey. According to the respondents, they would need an average of HUF 389,000 for a comfortable old-age life. K&H Bank presents a new approach to the pension problem, which is becoming more and more problematic worldwide: it asked a popular young person to demonstrate whether he can live off the average pension amount.
Last year’s rise in prices brought about a spectacular change in the retirement prospects of the middle-aged, according to recent K&H research among members of the 30-59 age group. The K&H secure future survey conducted in the second quarter, as in previous years, looked for the answer to how much of the monthly amount the people concerned could live on comfortably or modestly after reaching retirement age.
A significant increase
They would need an average of HUF 240,000 to save for old age, compared to HUF 211,000 a year earlier. Without extreme values, the average was HUF 214,000, and the median value was HUF 211,000 according to the latest data. In previous years, between 2018 and 2022, they talked about HUF 142 and 184 thousand on average.
Even more interesting is the development of the amount assigned to a comfortable living. This year, on average, middle-aged people consider HUF 389,000 per month necessary for carefree retirement days, while a year earlier, i.e. in 2023, they still paid HUF 345,000. Between 2018 and 2022, the survey yielded average results of HUF 201,000 to 305,000. For the comfortable life, the average result without extremes was HUF 354,000 this year, and the median was HUF 346,000.
From the latest research, it can be seen that the amount below HUF 200,000 was chosen by very few people, while the category above HUF 500,000 was the second most common choice.
