Wheat prices have risen significantly
In its February forecast, the International Grains Council indicated a global wheat harvest of 797 million tons for the 2024/2025 marketing year, 2 million tons more than the previous season. The expected consumption is 806 million tons. The closing stock of the crop may be 264 million tons (–3 percent) at the end of the 2024/2025 marketing year.

According to information from the French market analysis company Tallage in February, winter wheat can be harvested from 21.6 million hectares (+6 percent) in the European Union in the 2025/2026 season. In Hungary, Tallage experts indicate a harvest of 5.3 million tons from 960 thousand hectares. According to AKI PÁIR data, table wheat was traded at an average producer price of 90.2 thousand forints/ton excluding VAT and transport costs in the last week of February This price level exceeded the previous year by 39 percent. Feed wheat was traded at a producer price of 87.8 thousand forints/ton (+48 percent) at the same time. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME/CBOT), the March wheat quotation ranged between 190 and 213 dollars/ton between February 24 and March 7. At the same time, the March quotation of the crop on the Paris Mercantile Exchange (Euronext/MATIF) decreased to 205 euros/ton.
