Market expansion and strengthening manufacturer brands
2 percent higher value sales and 1 percent more sold in terms of volume in December 2010-September 2011 – this is how the meat product market developed according to the Nielsen Retail Index, which does not audit butcher shops. The size of the annual market approached HUF 220 billion and the most popular were red meats, the market share of which even grew from 36 to 37 percent. Sausage follows in the ranking with a 16-percent share, while cold cuts, ham and bacon were at 9 percent. Liver paté and sandwich spreads, smoked meat and salami were also above 5 percent. Manufacturer brands’ share grew from 75 to 76 percent. 34 percent of value sales were realised in the 401-2,500m² retail channel.
