Consumer sentiment in the euro area improved in September
Instead of the expected deterioration, consumer sentiment in the euro area improved to pre-crisis levels in September, according to preliminary data from the European Commission’s survey published on Wednesday.

Euro area consumers become more optimistic
According to a preliminary assessment of the regular monthly survey by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG EcFin) for September, the consumer sentiment index rose by 1.3 points to 4.0 points from minus 5.3 points in August instead of the expected decline of minus 5.8 points.
