In January, the growth of retail trade in the Czech Republic accelerated
n January, retail sales in the Czech Republic increased by 2.4 percent compared to a year earlier, after 1.2 percent in December, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Prague.
In a monthly comparison, the retail turnover in January was one percent higher than in the last month of last year.
Last December, the 19-month decline stopped and the statistics showed a moderate increase again. The growth in January was primarily determined by the continuously slowing inflation – the analysts pointed out. Lower bank interest rates also had a positive effect.
Jana Gotvaldová, director of the statistical office, pointed out at a press conference that the increase in January was primarily driven by greater interest in manufactured goods, fuels and food.
