An exciting period in the Hungarian parcel delivery market: challenges and transformations in the sector
Hungarian parcel delivery companies have faced many challenges in recent years, since after a rapid growth during the pandemic, returning customer habits, rising costs and new regulations weighing on the market are now shaping the sector, reports the Pénzcentrum.
Following the strong growth of e-commerce, in March the government introduced a measure according to which online stores must also sign a contract with Magyar Posta, so from now on they must also offer MPL to customers. This step further complicated the market situation, where as competitors of MPL, GLS, DPD, UPS and other market players are constantly trying to maintain their position with new services and competitive offers.
In the post-pandemic period, package delivery companies have had to face new challenges, such as rising gas and utility prices, as well as changing customer expectations. In addition, the players in the sector have also struggled with the general deterioration of the service level in the past period, as customers have increasingly encountered redirected packages, lost shipments and difficult-to-reach customer service. In addition, e-commerce platforms have to face the ever-changing algorithms of social media and fraud related to fake messages, which can further reduce customer confidence.
