Hungarian frozen fruit and vegetables are increasingly popular both domestically and abroad
Lidl Magyarország is committed to supporting Hungarian products and domestic suppliers.
Demand for high-quality Hungarian frozen fruit and vegetables is strong, both domestically and on foreign markets. In 2024 the discounter chain helped to sell more than 14,000 tonnes of fresh frozen fruit and vegetables in Hungary and abroad – a 35% rise from five years ago, but also a significant 18% surge compared to the previous year.
“In 2024 our domestic supplier partners exported HUF 3.3bn worth of frozen fruit and vegetables to 7 countries, which was 40% more than in the previous year”, told Tibor Kovács, the company’s executive director responsible for food purchasing. In the past six years 41 types of Hungarian frozen fruit and vegetables were sold in international Lidl stores, with the most popular products being green peas, vegetable mixes, beans and corn. Customers in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia and Bulgaria can all find high-quality Hungarian products on the shelves of Lidl stores. On the domestic market Lidl sold more than 40,000 tonnes of quick-frozen fruit and vegetables in the past six years. (x)
