Hungarian quick-frozen vegetables and fruits are increasingly popular both at home and abroad
The demand for Hungarian quick-frozen vegetables and fruits is significant both domestically and abroad. Lidl Hungary has sold more than 40 thousand tons of domestic quick-frozen products in the past six years alone, and together with exports, it has contributed more than 28 billion forints to the success of domestic suppliers, thereby helping them grow and enter the international market. The most popular products at home and abroad are young green peas, vegetable mixes, beans and crumbled corn.
The vegetables and fruits of domestic producers are of excellent quality, but they are less available in fresh form during the winter months. In such cases, quick-frozen versions offer a great alternative, as they preserve their vitamin, mineral and fiber content due to the sudden cooling, thus ensuring the nutrients necessary for a balanced diet all year round. Lidl therefore pays special attention to offering its customers the best possible quality frozen vegetables and fruits in a wide range and at a favorable price-value ratio, while also supporting Hungarian producers in sales and reaching foreign markets.
Hungarian fresh-frozen products are increasingly popular
Lidl is committed to supporting Hungarian products and domestic suppliers, and has been working for years to position Hungarian businesses. The demand for high-quality Hungarian quick-frozen vegetables and fruits is significant both domestically and internationally. In 2024, the discount chain supplied more than 14 thousand tons of fresh-frozen vegetables and fruits to both domestic and foreign markets, which represents a 35 percent increase compared to the data five years ago, but also a significant 18 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year.
“There is a strong export market demand for Hungarian quick-frozen products, which represents a serious development opportunity for Hungarian suppliers. As a result, in 2024, our domestic supplier partners exported quick-frozen vegetables and fruits to 7 countries worth approximately HUF 3.3 billion, which represents an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the previous year. The success in foreign markets is also demonstrated by the fact that over the past six years, more than HUF 11.5 billion has been realized by Hungarian suppliers solely thanks to exports,”
said Tibor Kovács, the company’s managing director responsible for food procurement.
