ITM: unjustified accumulation results in the increase of household waste
Excessive accumulation of basic consumer goods has led to an increase in waste, and unused and deteriorated non-durable products that pose an enormous burden on the environment, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) told.
According to the ministry’s statement, people and families spend much more time at home due to the emergency situation, which also brings with it a surge of different types of waste.
The major pick-up in consumption in recent weeks has been mostly in food and chemical stores. At week 11, the weekly sales of durable foods jumped to five to six times the daily turnover of each retail unit, with a 30-500 percent increase. Retail sales increased by 55 billion HUF in the second week of March compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). (MTI)
