The European Honey Breakfast campaign has started again
The European Honey Breakfast initiative started in Slovenia in 2007, which Hungary joined in 2014. The primary goal of the program is to promote the beneficial effects of honey consumption in the spirit of healthy nutrition, to introduce children to the importance of beekeeping and the essential role of bees in sustaining life. As part of the event, more than 200,000 students can enjoy the honey breakfast at nearly 1,000 locations throughout the country this year.
This year’s central event was hosted by Zoltán Kodály Primary School, High School and Elementary School of Art in Székesfehérvár. The event was attended by Dr. Marjan Cencen, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, Péter Bross, President of the National Hungarian Bee Association (OMME), and Dezső Mészáros, Managing Director of SIÓ-Eckes Kft.
“Our created world is made up of so many building blocks into a perfect whole, and in this complexity bees have a prominent role. Their work, the ecosystem service they provide, is irreplaceable, without bees and beekeepers our world is not sustainable. Hungarian honey is one of the best, synonymous with the best of our land. The undisclosed aim of the Honey Breakfast is to encourage domestic honey consumption, which now averages 1 kg/person/year”
– drew attention to Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture.
