Ipsos research: planning generational career paths is still the task of the future
On June 15, in an exclusive environment provided by the Electrolux Showroom in Budapest, the Swedish, Swiss and Dutch Chambers held a morning-long joint event, which focused on generational motivations in the workplace.
The professional event, combined with breakfast, was opened by the welcome of Jakab Roland (Swedish Chamber of Commerce, president) and Beáta Rakos-Szegleti (Netherlands-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, managing director). Erika Némethi, corporate coach and consultant, began the series of presentations to a sold-out audience of company managers and HR managers with a presentation on the work attitudes of the generations, “How do generations consume work?” with title. Generation X traditionally focuses on the development of personal performance and attitude in the workplace. Xennial is for a better understanding of others and for experiencing the lifestyle and enjoyment of life at work as well. For Millennials, teamwork and effective digital relationship management focus on individual autonomy and personal interest. Generation Z was born into the global society and digital revolution, which in their case brings acceptance of diversity and a high degree of freedom. As children of Generation X, Z’s know that they are valuable members of a community, so they are loyal as long as their personalities are not limited. First and foremost, they are loyal to their own principles, and a mission, a cause, has a prominent role in their work culture.
In the framework of the second presentation, Gergely Pomázi (Randstad, operational manager) presented the main results of a large-scale national research entitled “What different generations want”. The 2023 employer brand research took place in 32 labor markets around the world, involving the working community of more than 6,000 companies. “switchers vs. intenders” demographic analysis showed that members of the Millennial and Generation Z show the greatest willingness to change, the reason for which is primarily the increased personal cost of living. At the same time, among the members of Generation Z, personal development is also of particular importance (79% say it is an important aspect, compared to e.g. 46% of people over 55).
