The installation of invasive species was prevented by Nébih’s fish watch service
One of the main tasks of the Nébih State Fisheries Service (ÁHSZ) is to check the regularity of fish stocking and the traceability of fish, so during the period of autumn fish stocking, fish wardens throughout the country are increasingly checking compliance with the regulations. Since September, the experts of the ÁHSZ have banned the installation of invasive* silverfish in domestic fish farming water areas in two cases due to nature conservation reasons, and in several cases proceedings have been initiated due to the discovered violations.
For the lake farms, autumn means the beginning of the big harvests, when the fish producers are faced with the results of the invested work. The catch is then transferred from the rearing ponds to winter storage ponds, directly for processing or planting in domestic fish farming waters. In order to make it verifiable, prior notification of installations is required by law. According to this, the person entitled to fish management must notify the fish management authority and the fishing association of all planned fish stocking at least 3 days before the stocking, and must report on the quantities of fish actually stocked in a realization report within 8 days after the day of stocking. Checking the regularity of fish stocks and the traceability of fish is a priority task of the ÁHSZ. In the past two months, the state fish guards have conducted on-site inspections in more than 10 cases, during which proceedings were initiated 3 times, in 2 cases the installation of the fish to be placed was prohibited – due to the intention to install invasive silverfish – and in another 3 cases the specialists are still investigating.
The Nébih ÁHSZ draws attention to the fact that, based on the experience of the inspections, a frequent violation of the law is fish management authorization and fish stocking without a fish management plan approved by the fish management authority. Another regularly occurring problem is the unauthorized introduction of non-native fish species that can be planted with a permit. All of these violations of the law pose a significant threat to our native fish stocks, as a result of which the authority imposes fish management fines of HUF 500,000 – 5,000,000!
