Instant noodle soup market: trends and health considerations
After many years of growth, the consumption of instant noodle soups experienced a slight decrease for the first time in 2023. This change in trend was particularly noticeable in countries such as China, Vietnam, Japan, the United States and Brazil, where demand fell after the boom during the pandemic. China still dominates the market, but its consumption fell by 6.4% compared to the previous year. However, some countries such as India and Nigeria have registered significant growth, which has brought diversity to global consumption patterns. Hungary ranks 49th in the world in terms of instant noodle soup consumption, with 40 million servings per year, which means more than four servings per person.
In Europe, several countries such as Turkey, the United Kingdom, Germany and France are ahead of us in terms of consumption. According to the data, Hungarian consumption habits have remained stable in recent years. According to Healthline and other health sources, occasional consumption of instant noodle soups poses no risk, but excessive and regular consumption can cause health problems such as metabolic syndrome and other metabolic disorders. For health-conscious consumers, it is recommended to supplement soups with fresh vegetables, meat or eggs, and to choose versions with a low sodium content, reports the Pénzcentrum.
Developments in kitchen technology also contribute to the promotion of healthy eating habits. Devices that enable the quick and easy preparation of instant meals, such as kettles and air fryers, give us the opportunity to eat more varied and nutrient-rich meals even under limited cooking conditions. In particular, the spread of smaller-sized kitchen appliances is significant, as they are becoming more and more popular among the older age group, thus helping them maintain a healthier lifestyle.
