Innovation and growth with the support of the Demján Sándor Program at Sz.Variáns Kft. in Debrecen
With the support of the Demján Sándor Program, Sz. Variáns Kft. from Debrecen has reached another milestone. Since 1994, the family-owned company has been producing premium boxes, printed products, and paper-based packaging materials. Over the past decade, the business has multiplied its turnover, increased its profit by more than 60 percent, and now operates with nearly HUF 2 billion in revenue, employing 75 staff members and an additional 100 workers with reduced working capacity.
By the end of the year, the company will install a new Heidelberg printing press using UV technology, enabling the broader production of premium packaging from 2026 onwards. This innovative equipment can handle complex printing tasks, including metallized substrates and closed-surface paper or plastic sheets—jobs that previously required subcontractors.
Out of the HUF 660 million investment, nearly HUF 200 million was provided by the Demján Sándor Program. “This development not only opens up new markets but also ensures our long-term competitiveness both domestically and internationally,” emphasized managing owner János Szakál.
Sz. Variáns Kft. has long been a key player in Hungary’s premium and luxury packaging segment, as evidenced by several Hungaropack awards and the 2022 WorldStar Packaging Award. The new investment aims to further strengthen the company’s export strategy: the current 12 percent export share is planned to grow to 30–40 percent by 2029.
