Registration for the European Week for Waste Reduction 2025 campaign will start on Thursday, announced State Secretary Anikó Raisz at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

The State Secretary for the Environment of the Ministry of Energy highlighted that the European Week for Waste Reduction, which has been taking place in November every year since 2009, is a broad initiative that aims to draw attention to the prevention of waste generation.

She reminded that Hungary is participating in this campaign for the 13th time this year, which will be coordinated by the National Energy Agency with the support of the Ministry of Energy. She also thanked the Association of Environmental Service Providers and Manufacturers for their support.

According to her, the program focuses on a different topic every year.

This year, the focus is on electrical and electronic waste, the amount of which increases by approximately 2 percent every year. This is both a raw material and a hazardous material issue

– he indicated.

He added that in 2022, 14.4 million tons of electronic equipment were placed on the market in the European Union and 5 million tons of electronic waste were collected.

In line with this year’s focus theme, ideas and initiatives are expected that support the prevention of e-waste generation, repairability, lifespan extension, the use of official collection channels and conscious consumer decisions – he informed.
