Easter shopping begins: SPAR is preparing for this year’s holidays with more than 500 tons of smoked meat products
SPAR and INTERSPAR stores are preparing for this Easter season with more than 500 tons of smoked meat products. About 250 tons of the Easter hit, the tied shoulder, are sold during this period, and among mayonnaise salads, French lettuce is in the greatest demand. The company is also filling the stores with a larger amount of baking products and fresh vegetables, most of which come from domestic producers.

“In 2025, one of our biggest holidays, Easter, will be on April 20-21, so preparations will begin at the beginning of April, reaching its peak on the Thursday before Good Friday. We expect this to be the busiest day of the year. To top it all off, the start of a longer spring break for schoolchildren will also begin with the start of the holiday, so families need a coordinated shopping plan to be able to get everything in time. SPAR is replenishing the offer of the stores ahead of time, where we are preparing many new products in addition to the classic holiday dishes. Compared to previous years, we expect higher demand this year for premium products and more affordable SPAR brand products. In line with the increasing turnover, in order to provide seamless service, we are optimizing the staffing in the stores and in the supermarket stores we will also change the opening hours according to customer needs”
– explained Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
REGNUM meat plants are reaching their peak
SPAR’s own REGNUM meat plants are preparing for the 2025 season with 250 tons of tied shoulder, 95 tons of smoked-cooked ribs, 150 tons of smoked knuckle, and about 30 tons of smoked, cut shoulder. The pork raw materials used in the products are predominantly from domestic sources.
Increasing number of alternative, organic and free-range eggs
SPAR also expects an increase in the turnover of fresh table eggs in 2025. In recent years, the proportion of alternative, organic and free-range eggs sold in stores has gradually increased, and caged eggs have decreased.
The turnover of horseradish, mustard and mayonnaise, which is suitable for the Easter menu, also increases during this period. Horseradish is sold by about 70 percent around Easter, but the turnover of mustards and mayonnaises also increases by a quarter in the weeks leading up to the holiday.
