During the meeting, the Deputy State Secretary emphasized that the presence of the specialized UN organizations in Hungary is extremely important for our country, which have created jobs for hundreds of mostly Hungarian employees. Oszkár Ökrös emphasized that Hungary supports the training of professionals in developing countries and the transformation of their food systems with an international agricultural scholarship program covering almost 50 countries and the financing of joint projects, thus contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals. The parties agreed that the popularity of the agricultural scholarship program is growing every year and more and more students are applying for master’s programs offered by Hungarian agricultural universities, therefore the expansion of the program should be considered so that even more young people from developing countries will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge that can be acquired at Hungarian agricultural universities. . The Deputy Director General outlined the future priorities and directions of the FAO: the importance of innovation and research, the importance of water as a strategic natural resource, and praised Hungary’s commitment to FAO cooperation. Oszkár Ökrös briefly outlined the priority agricultural topics of Hungary’s EU presidency next year, one of the most important of which is the issue of food waste, in connection with which the parties agreed on close cooperation and the organization of joint programs.
