Index.hu – Zoltán Guller: Balaton is fine
At the national level, the number of guests increased by 4 percent compared to last year in July this year, and compared to 2019, the sector improved by 13 percent – Zoltán Guller, president of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, told Index. He added that the number of domestic guests decreased by four percent compared to 2022, but the number of foreign guests jumped by 19 percent.
In the article posted on the portal on Thursday morning, the president noted that the number of one-day tourists at Lake Balaton has increased significantly based on anonymously measured mobile cell data, so overall there are more people there than last year.
In the first seven months of the year, a decrease of less than one percent was visible in the number of guests, which means that on average there were 50 fewer people per day at the Balaton accommodations, which will otherwise disappear in the statistics by the end of the summer season, he noted.
He stated that the success of Lake Balaton is a matter for all of us, and they did not find any statement from the president of the Croatian hotel association that says that the Adriatic is in crisis and there are no tourists. He probably knows that such statements would not have a good effect on Adria, he added.
