An illegal fish storage was uncovered by the fish guards on Lake Balaton
An illegal fish storage facility that had been operating for several years was uncovered by the fish guards of the Balatoni Halgazdálkodási Nonprofit Zrt. and the Nébih State Fisheries Service. The angler placed 23 carp in the 40 m3 pit located in Balatonkenese, most of which were returned unharmed to Lake Balaton.

Illegally caught carp awaiting transport have safely returned to Lake Balaton
The fishermen of the Balatoni Halgazdálkodási Nonprofit Zrt. followed a shipment of fish from Balatonkenese to the settlement of Dég, and then with the help of the police and the Nébih State Fisheries Service (ÁHSZ), the car transporting the live fish was brought under control. Official experts found a total of 23 carp in the cargo area of the Ford Transit car, in 3 200-liter barrels, with a combined weight of 128 kg. The person brought under control caught the fish from Lake Balaton in 2020 and 2021, and then collected them in the illegally created fish storage pit. Later, he would have delivered them to a private fishing lake in Dég as a gift.
Nébih has initiated proceedings against illegal fishing, and the authority is investigating the circumstances of commercialization of the fish, as well as the possibility of stocking fish without an official permit. The illegal angler can expect a fish protection fine of several hundred thousand forints.
The fish illegally taken from the Balaton fish farming water area finally regained their freedom, and the individuals – after a veterinary examination – were returned to their original habitat, in Lake Balaton, by the ÁHSZ and the Balaton fish guards.
