This is how Apple and Google occupy the checkouts of Hungarian stores
The growth of smart device payments among K&H’s customers is continuously accelerating. According to the latest data from the financial institution, in September 2025, customers made more than 8.4 million digital transactions worth a total of 84.6 billion forints, which means 28 percent more payments and 55 percent more turnover than in the same month of 2024. According to the nine-month data, the number of payments also increased by 28 percent, while turnover increased by more than 60 percent.
The number of smart device payments, including smartphone payments, and the related turnover have been continuously increasing for years, so the base data is high. But even so, massive expansion is visible in this area, K&H announced. The latest data from the financial institution, which prioritizes the development and growth of digital solutions, shows that more than 8.4 million digital payments took place in September this year, worth a total of 84.6 billion forints, the former representing an increase of 28 percent and the latter of 55 percent compared to September last year.
Payment solutions competition
Based on the detailed data, Apple Pay is still by far the most popular solution: in September 2025, 5.2 million payments were made worth 56 billion forints. In terms of the number of payments, the surplus is 28 percent here too, and the turnover has increased by 55 percent. Google Pay also performed outstandingly, with 3.2 million transactions and a turnover of 28 billion forints, with the number of units for this solution showing an annual increase of 29 and the amount spent of 56 percent. Garmin Pay is growing steadily: the number of people paying with their sports watches increased to 36,700 in September, with a turnover of 289 million forints, which is an increase of 10 and 14 percent compared to September 2024. Xiaomi Pay has a smaller user base, but turnover has also expanded here, by 6 percent compared to the previous year. The latest player, Amazfit Pay, only became available to K&H customers in the spring of 2024, but it quickly became popular: in September 2025, the number of transactions more than tripled and their value almost quadrupled in one year.
Almost 670 billion items
A similarly dynamic growth can be seen in the first three quarters. Based on the aggregated data, K&H customers carried out nearly 67 million smart device transactions, worth about 670 billion forints, which corresponds to an increase of 28 and 62 percent year-on-year.
“Customers are increasingly looking for fast and easy, contactless and at the same time secure payment solutions, and smart device payments meet all these expectations. In recent years, digital payments have become a natural part of everyday life, and at K&H we continue to work to make this available to as many customers as possible”
– said Gergő Molnár, Head of Retail Marketing at K&H Bank. He added:
“The popularity of smart device payments is also indicated by the fact that the average amount per payment has already exceeded 10 thousand forints this year, compared to almost 8 thousand forints a year earlier. This means that customers are spending more and more money with their smart devices. It is true that rising prices also play a role in the growth.”
In the coming period, the bank will also pay special attention to the development of digital solutions and the spread of cashless payment methods. The goal is for K&H customers to be able to manage their finances quickly and easily in all situations, whether it’s a smartphone or a smartwatch.
