This is how expensive goose meat became this year
After the avian flu epidemic, the domestic goose sector recovered again, the production and purchase of fattened geese increased in the second half of the year.
According to the data of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, good quality Hungarian goose meat and foie gras will be available to domestic consumers on the upcoming St. Martin’s Day. Due to the two waves of the bird flu epidemic, goose production was low in the first half of this year, but goose production will increase again in the second half of the year, so it is likely that there will be no shortage of domestic goose meat on the upcoming St. Martin’s Day. According to the Goose Association, 15,000 tons of live geese were slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the first nine months of this year, which is 17% more than in the same period of the previous year. Although feed prices decreased slightly during the year, prices for goose meat and foie gras may still be higher than last year.
