The specialty of real pálinka is the Hungarian pálinka culture that goes back to its old roots, compliance with strict legal requirements, exceptional quality raw materials and the great knowledge and experience of the pálinka brewers, said Zsolt V. In Zala county, in the area of the former Pannonia, in the area where the first privately brewed pálinka was produced, the 5th Jubilee Pannonia Distilled Competition was once again organized with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Hungarian Commission. The 1st Carpathian Basin Pear Pálinka and Sparkling Competition took place within this framework. A total of 888 samples were received by the Pannónia Pálinkakultúra Egyesület from 126 entrants from here and across the border for the two contests. The jury consisting exclusively of pálinka experts evaluated the named distillates, which were measured with the greatest care, at an authentic location, with maximum anonymity.
The prime minister’s commissioner pointed out that the fact that so many samples came to the competition, and that such a professional jury was needed to evaluate them, says everything about the success story of pálinka in Hungary. After the creation of the Hungarikum Act, pálinka was the first value to be included in the Collection of Hungarikumok, which currently contains 85 items, he added.
