The “Hungarian Bread for the Future Scholarship Program” was announced for the second time for young people working in agriculture in the Carpathian Basin. This year, twice as many as last year, 25 young people will receive a one-year scholarship, which they can spend on their studies, professional development or improvements related to farming. The scholarships were awarded on 11 November 2024 in the Parliament.

The Bread of Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat program goes back more than a decade. Over the years, the Program has evolved into a national, cross-border altruistic cooperation, through which Hungarian farmers from here and across the border help thousands of needy families with wheat and financial donations every year.

As a new element of the Hungarian Bread program, the “Hungarian Bread for the Future Scholarship Program” was launched last year, through which Hungarian agricultural students, university students and young people working in agriculture in Hungary and abroad receive support. The scholarship can be used for their studies, professional development or developments related to green farming.

Compared to last year’s 12 people, this year 25 young Hungarians from the home country and across the border received scholarships. This is an investment in the future, which will pay off many times over for the nation – emphasized István Jakab, the president of the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Associations and Farmers’ Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), which coordinates the Bread of Hungarians program, and vice-president of the Parliament. He added that their goal is to ensure that the young people in agriculture affected by the war and market problems are successful and prepare for the challenges of the future.

Zsolt Papp, the president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, said: in the last 10 years, agriculture has undergone greater development than in the previous 50 years. Today’s young people are the ones who are building the agriculture of the future, taking Hungarian agriculture and the food industry forward by taking advantage of the opportunities provided by innovations and digitalization. NAK is committed to generational renewal, using all means to support young people in producing efficiently, effectively, and environmentally conscious.
