Food industry investments will continue this year
The government views the food industry as a sector of strategic importance, the performance of which has expanded spectacularly over several years, and its production value increased by 38.3 percent between 2010 and 2024. The government has supported food industry investments with 800 billion forints of support over the past 10 years, which will continue this year, András Tállai, the State Secretary responsible for the food economy and agricultural vocational training at the Ministry of Agriculture (AM), informed in a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.
The State Secretary emphasized that the largest agricultural and food industry investment program since the change of regime is currently underway, which can be implemented thanks to the 80 percent national co-financing provided to EU funds.
He highlighted that
Between 2014 and 2024, the amount of support flowing into the food industry approached 800 billion forints, which is a serious achievement in terms of the development of the sector.
He stressed that the applications submitted within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CAP ST) also reflect the momentum of food industry investments. According to the State Secretary, 548 applications were received for the “Support for the Complex Development of Processing Plants” call, worth 708.48 billion forints, while 860 applications were received for the “Support for the Development of Processing Plants” call, worth 54.47 billion forints.
He added that the applications are being processed, and the first results of the smaller call are expected soon.
András Tállai also mentioned that the production value of the sector in 2024 exceeded the previous year by 3.9 percent, while the total sales volume of the food industry exceeded the previous year by 4.8 percent.
