Pre-portioned segment dominant among meat products
According to data from the Nielsen Retail Index, sales are increasingly concentrated and the pre-portioned segment is becoming increasingly dominant. The market showed expansion of 1 per cent in terms of value in the May 2007–April 2008 period, compared to the preceding period and its size now exceeds HUF 193 billion. At the same time, sales show a 4 per cent drop in terms of quantity. The pre–portioned segment accounted for 59 per cent of total sales in terms of value in the above period, which is 2 per cent more than a year earlier. Average consumer prices of red meats dropped in the pre-portioned segment and rose only slightly for dry sausages and cooked hams in the same segment.
