Next week, significant precipitation is unlikely, so the soil surface will be able to dry and desiccate – wrote HungaroMet Zrt. in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

The dormancy of rapeseed and winter cereals has ended. In winter wheat, the late winter and early spring freezing can cause several problems, when the very moist soil freezes in several cycles at night and thaws during the day, because the roots of the plant can be damaged at this time. The sap circulation of fruit trees and grapes is also slowly starting, hazelnuts are already blooming in the north, the flower buds of the dogwood have burst, but in the southern part of the country, the buds of early stone fruits are also swelling.

According to the forecast, dry, mostly sunny, spring-like weather will continue for the next 8-10 days, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible at the beginning of next week

Night frosts will be characteristic of an increasingly smaller area, and daytime warming is also increasing. After a much drier than average December, this January was rainier than usual in a significant part of the country, especially in the south and southeast, just as in most places in February it rained more than the multi-year average. However, the total precipitation that fell during the winter exceeded 100 millimeters only in the southern part of the country and on the eastern border, with only 60-90 millimeters falling in large areas, which is 15-45 millimeters less than the multi-year average. The top one-meter layer of soil in the Great Plain has not been replenished in many places by the end of winter, typically 30-50, in some places 50-70 millimeters are missing from saturation, while inland water spots also occur on soils with poor water permeability in the Tiszántúl region.
