HungaroControl: Traffic increases by 6 percent during the holidays
According to the preliminary estimate of the Hungarian air navigation service provider, traffic will be 6 percent stronger in the two weeks before Christmas compared to the same period last year. The company will help the safe transportation of almost 6 million passengers in the airspace of our country, and is preparing with reinforced capacities to handle the increasing traffic year after year – HungaroControl Zrt. told MTI on Wednesday.
Christmas is also a priority period for air traffic control, which is why HungaroControl Zrt., which is indirectly under the control of the Ministry of National Economy, is preparing for the holidays with reinforced capacities: 103 controllers will be on duty in the weeks before Christmas.
During last year’s holiday period, the company’s specialists handled 32,300 aircraft, and this year they expect 1,800 more flights.
In addition to transit traffic, the traffic at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport has also been steadily increasing in the years after the pandemic, including in the two weeks before Christmas: at this time last year, 4,200 landings and takeoffs were registered, which is 200 aircraft more than the result of 2022, they said.
