An interview with Gergely Giczi, deputy CEO of the Agricultural Marketing Centre (AMC).

– AMC is going through a busy period, with important events taking place both in Hungary and abroad this fall. Can the players in the domestic food industry keep up the pace?

– It is worth keeping up the pace, because the world and the business environment are changing at breakneck speed around us. Since hundreds of billions of forints worth of developments have begun in the processing sector, the Hungarian food industry will become truly competitive on the international stage. We need markets and we are working for this with all the tools at our disposal.

– What tools does the Hungarian Food Business Programme make available to companies for export development?

– International trade fairs, numerous B2B programmes, an online catalogue and an extensive network of buyer contacts. We organise about 20 foreign market events each year, plus B2B events through delegation trips. Our online catalogue, the Hungarian Food Business Catalogue now features more than 3,000 products from 270 domestic manufacturers and the number of international buyers exceeds 700.

– Perhaps the biggest event of the year was organising the 2nd Hungarian Food Summit, but that wasn’t all…

– The summit was definitely the event of the year, with 70 Hungarian food companies, 200 international buyers and more than 2,500 negotiations. We also provided exhibition opportunities in Germany, Japan, Dubai and Poland, and organised several B2B programmes in the Balkans, the Middle East and the Baltic States.

– You offer a wide range of services. What can food industry companies expect in 2026?

– In the first quarter of 2026 we will organise the Hungarian presence at trade fairs such as the Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Biofach in Nuremberg, Gulfood in Dubai, Foodex in Tokyo, Alimentaria in Barcelona and possibly Worldfood Poland in Warsaw, as well as complementary B2B programmes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kuwait and Slovenia.
