Cheeky Plum Prince
This year the Hungarian Confectioners Guild organised the Cake of Hungary contest for the 16th time.
Every year the guild is expecting entries with popular Hungarian flavours, which are related to the 20 August national holiday or to Hungary in some way. The jury evaluated the entries in three rounds, and in the final round the confectioners had to prepare the cakes on-site, in the presence of the jury panel.
This year poppy seed, sour cherry, Tokaj wines and sour cream were the most popular ingredients. Some confectioners used really exciting ingredients such as sweet potato, dill, rosemary and goose liver.
Orsolya Karikó (Vanília & Gelarto Artisan Confectionery, Nagykőrös) won Cake of Hungary this year, with her Eger red wine and plum inspired creation, Cheeky Plum Prince. Pál Lakatos (Levendula és Kert Confectionery, Szigetszentmiklós) was the runner-up with his cake Treasure of The Blue Apron, and the cake Seasons by Zita Szivós (Major Confectionery, Budapest) finished third.

The two category winners Orsolya Karikó and László Gyuris
Hungary’s Sugar-free cake became Grandma’s Favourite by László Gyuris (Virág Confectionery and Café, Szeged). You can find the list of confectioneries where the winner cakes can be tasted at www.cukraszat.hu. The recipes will be made public at the end of the year, until then only guild members can prepare the cakes. //
