A good summer followed by an autumn that seems to promise less – this is how the frozen fruit and vegetable category looks right now from the perspective of the HoReCa sector.

Dr Adrienn Losó, managing director of MIRELITE MIRSA Zrt.: “During the pandemic demand for frozen products dropped in the HoReCa sector. This was especially true for the more expensive fruit varieties. Demand shifted towards standard vegetable products. This year’s economic problems put great burden on the sector once again.” MIRELITE MIRSA Zrt.’s products are made of vegetables grown in Hungary.

Tímea Gosztola, processed meat and frozen product buyer at METRO: “After the pandemic frozen fruit and vegetable sales increased, and sales have been growing by double-digit numbers in 2022. METRO sells the products of the best-know manufacturers, and we also cater for the needs of hospitality units with our own METRO Chef frozen products.”
Dr Losó added that prices elevated in this product category too. As people are focusing more and more on their own health and on the problem of sustainability, these trends manifest in the frozen fruit and vegetable category too. Ms Gosztola revealed that the most popular frozen vegetables are pea, cauliflower, broccoli and various mixes. Among frozen fruits forest fruit mixes and various berries dominate, but cubed mango also sells well. Size-wise demand is the biggest for 2.5kg and 1kg products. // //
