At the press conference titled “Water conservation in the landscape is the most important national strategy, security policy and sovereignty protection issue”, Hubai Imre spoke about how the MA has been paying serious attention to the establishment and support of sustainable water management communities together with the water sector for years. He added that farmers’ cooperation can do the most to ensure that an appropriate response to climate change is created by developing irrigation and water conservation. The State Secretary said that the next round of irrigation development applications will start on September 2, with a budget of 16.5 billion forints and a maximum of 200 million forints in grant support. He added that farmers can apply so that sustainable water management communities, or even farmers engaged in individual irrigation activities, can implement their irrigation investments. He also announced that a call for proposals will be launched on September 4 with a budget of 2 billion forints and a maximum grant amount of 75 million forints, which will provide sustainable water management communities with coverage for construction permits, planning or maintenance costs. After September 30, the next phase of the application to support complex investments within agricultural holdings to improve irrigation development and water use efficiency will come, with a total budget of 49.5 billion forints.
