We can expect horror prices when it comes to Easter ham
The supply will be plentiful, but the prices will be high among Easter hams.
Real wages have been falling for four months now, which has a spectacular effect on the purchase value of salaries, reports the Index. In the past five months, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) measured general food inflation of over 40 percent.
The secretary general of the Hungarian National Trade Association also confirmed to the newspaper that there will be no shortage of ham on the shelves of shops at Easter, but the price can be particularly alarming.
Various ham products can cost 35-40 percent more this year than last Easter. This is “only” 40 percent, because traders calculate with a smaller margin in order to avoid even more daunting prices. If the entire purchase price increase were passed on to consumers, we could face a 50-60 percent increase in the price of Easter meat products in stores
Katalin Neubauer remarked.
