After Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, the second most important airline in the Republic of South Korea, is also launching direct flights between Budapest and Seoul. With the new flights, passengers will have seven “direct connections” a week between the two capitals in the summer period – the Ministry of National Economy told MTI on Saturday.

The launch of the flight is another important milestone in the development of Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The airport is a strategically important infrastructure, which is not only a transport hub, but also a key element of tourism, freight transport and economic growth.

The 75-year-old airport had a record year in 2025, with 19.6 million passengers and 420 thousand tons of freight traffic. We will further increase this performance, and developments, including the new terminal, the renovation of the expressway and the construction of the railway connection, will further strengthen Hungary’s competitiveness – the ministry’s statement reads.

Based on the recent agreement between the aviation authorities of South Korea and Hungary, bilateral passenger traffic rights will be expanded from 6 to 14 flights per week, which has opened the opportunity for Asiana Airlines to launch a new flight. Flights between Budapest and Seoul are important indicators of the South Korean market’s demand for direct flights to Europe, as well as the strengthening economic and tourist relations between Hungary and South Korea, they wrote.

Last year, an average of three scheduled flights per week operated between the Hungarian and South Korean capitals, with an outstanding average load factor of over 90 percent, carrying a total of 148,000 passengers. With the launch of the flight announced by Asiana Airlines, a total of seven flights per week will operate between Budapest and Seoul during the summer peak season, with Asiana Airlines serving the demand with Airbus A 350 aircraft.
