HERZ hams with ancient sea salt – a more conscious choice for everyday life
We all know the tale in which the king sends away his daughter, who expresses her love for him by comparing it to people’s attachment to salt. After many unsalted meals, the king realizes his mistake and takes his daughter back. The story is instructive for all of us, as salt is an important element of our diet, it gives food a proper taste, it also has a preservative effect, and it is also essential for the functioning of our body, but it is important to pay attention to its quantity.
“According to the results of domestic and foreign surveys, not only adults, but also children consume too much salt, even several times the maximum recommended daily intake. Excessive sodium intake carries health risks, therefore reducing salt intake is an important nutritional aspect. Products with reduced salt content can help reduce daily sodium intake,”
– draws attention to Orsolya Abonyi, dietician at MDOSZ.
HERZ sliced cooked hams have always been a quality choice with their high meat content and max. 3% fat content, but now they have reached a new level.
With lower sodium content
“In order to reduce salt, we have now replaced part of the nitrite salt mixture in the recipe of HERZ sliced cooked hams with ancient sea salt with reduced sodium content, while their taste remains harmonious and balanced. Thanks to this, HERZ hams contain an average of 25% less salt, and this also means that the nitrite content of the hams has also decreased, and the amount of preservatives in them has decreased”
– said Ildikó Felsőné Tamás, HERZ Senior Product Manager.
The total salt content of foods is determined based on the sodium content according to regulations. Based on domestic and international recommendations, the upper limit of the recommended salt consumption is 5 grams per day, which means an intake of 2–2.4 grams of sodium.
