Huge mid-year wage increase at ALDI: wage competition explodes, Lidl, Spar in a difficult situation
ALDI Hungary decided on an extraordinary mid-year wage increase. The company’s goal is to maintain the real value of its employees’ wages in addition to rising inflation, and therefore, after the uniform 8% wage increase in January, it will increase its employees’ salaries by an additional 8-19% from July 1, depending on the position.
ALDI Hungary’s primary goal is to provide the Hungarian population with satisfied and motivated employees and provide high-quality service every day. The company therefore raises its wages on January 1st of each year in order to maintain the real value of its employees’ salaries and to offer an attractive alternative to those who want to work in food retail, even compared to other sectors. At the beginning of 2022, the department store chain already implemented an 8% salary increase for all employees, which exceeded the rate of inflation at the time. ALDI still wants to maintain the competitiveness of its wages and the satisfaction of its employees, therefore, due to the significant price increases experienced in recent months and the sudden jump in inflation, it has decided on an extraordinary mid-year wage increase.
