Thirty-three kilogrammes of food products are thrown out unnecessarily every year
An average Hungarian consumer throws out 33 kilograms of food per year only because it became rotten, due to poor storage or because it was unnecessarily purchased – Világgazdaság Online wrote.
Globally, one third of the food produced for human consumption, about 1.3 billion tonnes a year, is wasted. According to the United Nations Agricultural Organization, according to FAO, the amount of food waste produced annually by the world’s wealthy nations (222 million tonnes) is far short of the total annual food production in Sub-Saharan Africa (230 million tonnes). In Hungary, about 1.8 million tonnes of food waste are generated each year, a significant proportion of which – about one third – is produced in households. (vg.hu)
