Domestic poultry meat imports fell by a third

According to European Commission data, the Union’s (EU27) poultry meat exports decreased by 3 percent to 853 thousand tons between January and May 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The community’s poultry meat imports increased by 12 percent to 427 thousand tons in the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s poultry meat exports decreased by 3 percent to 121 thousand tons between January and July 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. Within this, chicken meat exports increased by 9 percent to 92 thousand tons, while turkey meat decreased by 6 percent to 13 thousand tons. The largest target market for poultry meat continued to be Romania. Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 34 percent to 30 thousand tons in the observed period, within which the supply of chicken meat fell by 14 percent to 28 thousand tons, and that of turkey meat by 41 percent to 1.8 thousand tons. Most of the poultry meat came from Poland.

According to data from AKI PÁIR, the live weight producer price of slaughter chicken in Hungary increased by 7.2 percent to 445.0 forints/kilogram, and that of slaughter turkey by 8.3 percent to 640.0 forints/kilogram in the first thirty-eight weeks of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was 2000.9 HUF/kilogram (+14.5 percent), chicken breast with bones was 1268.1 HUF/kilogram (+9.4 percent), chicken breast (total) was 1915.3 HUF/kilogram (+11.3 percent), and chicken leg was 916.8 HUF/kilogram (+3.7 percent) in the observed period.
