Balázs Hankó: the results achieved show that Hungarians are innovative
Hungarians are innovative, this is also shown by the results, for example the fact that the number of researchers and developers has doubled since 2010, which is the best result in the EU – stated Balázs Hankó, State Secretary responsible for innovation and higher education at the Joint Venture Association – Hungarian Innovation ! conference on Friday at the Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus, Budapest.
He added that the government wants Hungary to be considered among the top 10 innovators in the EU, and that there should be at least one Hungarian higher education institution in the TOP 100 at the world level and three at the EU level by 2030.
Among the government’s goals, he also mentioned the increase in the number of researchers and developers per one million inhabitants, from the current 6,000 to 9,000, and that by 2030 there should be 8-10 “unicorns”, i.e. startups that have achieved a valuation of at least 1 billion dollars .
It is also among the objectives that, in addition to large companies, SMEs also take a greater part in innovation, it should be a part of at least every third Hungarian SME’s activities – he explained.
He said that in 2021, 1.64 percent of GDP was spent on innovation in Hungary, and he emphasized that the ratio of innovation spending should not only be maintained, but also increased.
