According to the announcement, large-flowered varieties are in the greatest demand, and the vast majority of the domestic harvest is sold in October and early November. According to the interviewed growers and distributors, there are enough domestic flowers, and there is a wide selection of both potted and cut varieties, the NAK announced. In an average year, it is estimated that 12-13 million strands of large-flowered ones are sold, and 1.5-2 million strands of medium-large-flowered ones. Although there is some increase in prices, the significant increase in producers’ costs is not fully reflected in the prices – they indicated.
Cultivation is basically characteristic near big cities
There are significant growing areas around Dabas, Lajosmizse, Kecskemét, Nyíregyháza and Szeged. While in the past, customers were looking for white flowers, nowadays green and two-color chrysanthemums are the best sellers. Pompon-type flowers are more popular in Western Hungary, while sunflower-like flowers are more popular in the Great Plains and Tiszántúl. In recent years, the demand for prefabricated, smaller wreaths has also increased, this is also caused by the increased proportion of graves with urns – explained the chamber.
