Hyper markets strong in hair
Retail sales of shampoos exceeded HUF 10 billion in the March 2006 – February 2007 period. According to the Retail Index of Nielsen, sales expanded by 4 per cent compared to the preceding period. Hyper markets further improved their market position, with a market share of 39 per cent in terms of volume. Drugstores were second with a 19 per cent share, while the 401-2 500 square meter segment had 18 per cent. 1000 millilitre and larger sizes took a 29 per cent share from sales in terms of volume, whereas the 201-300 millilitre size had 25 per cent. Average prices moved like a roller coaster during the past two years, with the peak reached at HUF 1424/litre. Sales of hair conditioners show continuous growth. Increase was 7 per cent in the same period, with the total market exceeding HUF 2 billion. Hyper markets held a 44 per cent share, while that of drugstores expanded by 3 per cent to 35. Average prices show constant increase, whereas private labels account for 11 per cent of the market, the same proportion as a year earlier.
