European Fraich Fantasy
Last year Hungarian families tasted more than 3,000kg of fruits and vegetables as part of the European Fraich Fantasy programme. The joint campaign of the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and French cross-sector trade organisation Interfel promotes fruit and vegetable consumption in a playful way. Our magazine asked NAK president Balázs Győrffy about the results.
What does the campaign focus on in its current stage?
BGy: – The first year was about raising awareness of the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, now we place more emphasis on changing consumption habits, showing a good example and offering a real family experience.
What is your main goal with the European Fraich Fantasy programme?
BGy: – In this 3-year period the main goal is to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Another objective is to make children above the age of 6 years understand the importance of a healthy diet. Frutti and Veggi, the two central figures of the campaign, teach children about all of these in a fun way. Family members should enjoy fruits and vegetables together – this is the main message of the campaign.
What are the consumption habits like in Hungary?
BGy: – If we take a look at retail sales trends, we can see that Hungarians like to consume coffee, tap water, mineral water and fruits and vegetables – in this order. The buying intensity of the latter two is growing in the long term. People also find it more important to purchase food that is healthy than before.
What kind of events and promotions do you plan to organise?
BGy: – Families can meet Frutti and Veggi in many places all over Hungary – they travel around the country in the form of a roadshow. In Budapest they will bring the special world of Vegapolis to the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Feast and to the four weekends of the Children’s Island programme series. Eight new episodes of the popular cartoon series European Fraich Fantasy will be aired on the television channel Minimax. What is more, there is also a Frutti and Veggi smartphone app now.
How will the European Fraich Fantasy programme continue this year?
BGy: – In June those who visit the Generali Children’s Island can participate in cooking workshops, various fruit- and vegetable-themed fun activities for children, a virtual reality game and a European Fraich Fantasy dance choreography. At the last weekend of the programme series Ottó Vincze and Anita Görbicz will also be there. We will organise a culinary workshop at the end of the year: supervised by chef András Wolf, children and their parents – together with Ottó and Anita – will cook tasty and healthy food. (x)
