Fruits at the price of gold
Data from the latest report of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) reveals that at the Budapest Wholesale Market domestic pepper was sold at a higher price than last year.
The production price of domestic peach was twice as high on average as a year ago. Apricot was sold for HUF 465/kg in the middle of summer, which means that it cost 48 percent more than last year. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, in Hungary 10,000 tons of apricot is estimated to have been harvested instead of the average 30,000 tons. At the Budapest Wholesale Market the production price of apricot was HUF 513/kg, 36 percent higher than last year. AKI PAIR data reveals that sales of domestically produced wine dropped by 34 percent, while sales prices rose by 17 percent. The National Food Chain Safety Authority (NÉBIH) reported that until 31 July 3.95 million tons of wheat was harvested, the average yield per hectare was 3.72 tons.
