Retail sales in the euro area were weak in September
Retail sales in the euro area were weaker than expected in September compared with the previous month, as Germany, the region’s largest economy, underperformed and consumers restrained their spending on non-food products.
The European Union’s statistical office (Eurostat) said on Friday that seasonally adjusted data showed a 0.3 percent month-on-month decline in the 19-member eurozone and a 2.5 percent year-on-year increase in retail sales in September.
Analysts expected an increase of 1.5 percent year-over-year and 0.2 percent from the previous month. (MTI)
