Food truck season kicks off with a goulash cannon and a dachshund race
Hundreds of years old “food trucks” are arriving at Kincsem Park – the country’s best mobile restaurants will be joined by buffet trucks reminiscent of the past at this weekend’s Food Truck Show. The Hungarian Army will be introducing, among other things, the goulash cannon, which was used by the Hungarian army in the 19th century. In addition, 38 food trucks will be serving food, trotting, galloping and greyhound races, family and live music programs, and even a dachshund race, with free admission.
In addition to the best traditional street food – burgers, pizzas and BBQs – Asian dishes, seafood specialties and unusual sweets will also be available in the courtyard of Kincsem Park between May 10 and 11. Although the organizers select the most exciting trucks for the event every year, the audience will help decide which one will be the owner of this year’s Food Truck of the Year award by Sunday evening.
In addition to the traditional trucks, the event will also feature food trucks reminiscent of the past. Among others, a coffee cart will be arriving, which will present the oldest means of mobile food distribution with one of the favorite drinks of the 21st century. But the nostalgia does not end there: the Ministry of Defense will also bring one of the first Hungarian “food trucks”, the goulash cannon, which was used by the Hungarian army from the late 1800s until World War II.
During the weekend, there will also be continuous programs at the horse racing track: on Saturday, the country’s fastest greyhounds and trotters will start, while on Sunday, the thoroughbreds will start. The most popular competition of the event is expected to be the puppy and dachshund race held next to the track, where amateur competitors – and owners – will measure the speed of their little pets. The special competition is a favorite program for children every year, who will also be treated to a carousel, pony rides and face painting.
There will be live music performers on the Food Truck Show stage both days, with Ivan & The Parazol performing on Saturday, among others.
