The Global food supply chains have to face complex challenges
The Global food supply chains have to face complex challenges because due to the growth of the world’s population and a significant change in consumption patterns, there is a huge demand on the demand side and the supply side is negatively affected – Nagy István, Parliamentary Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture told MTI on Friday in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia.
The Minister of State, who took part in the Agro-Commercial and Economic Cooperation Forum between the Central and Eastern European countries and China, told MTI that by 2050, the demand for food is projected to increase by 70 percent while the supply side to be affected by such negative processes as global climate change, declining land-use, degradation of ground quality or the depletion of groundwater. Therefore, many of the world’s food production systems are unsustainable and are expected to further weaken the environment and endanger its productive capacity. (MTI, Kriják Krisztina)
