GKID eTOPLISTA 2023: Unchanged leading position, changing balance of power
Since 2015, GKID has been creating public rankings of online merchants in the Hungarian market, focusing on those with the highest revenues. In collaboration with Mastercard, this year they compiled four thematic sales rankings. Besides the TOP15 list for the highest revenue e-commerce retailers, there is also a TOP10 FMCG list, which includes retailers specializing in online sales of food and household items. Additionally, a ranking was created for 100% Hungarian-owned retailers achieving at least five billion HUF in gross online retail sales, featuring 13 Hungarian webshops. This year, a fourth popularity ranking was added to the three well-known sales rankings, comprising the 15 most spontaneously recognized internet merchants, based on GKID’s own consumer surveys.
2023 saw more changes in ranking positions than ever before
The TOP15 list for online retail sales in 2023 saw more movement and changes in positions than any previous year, indicating the turbulent and complex market environment Hungarian e-merchants must navigate. Nevertheless, eTOPLISTA remains unchanged at the top: Hungary’s most well-known and largest webshop is still eMAG, with Alza.hu consistently second. These two largest platforms also grew closer to each other in 2023.
The third spot on the podium for the highest revenue webshops saw a change this year: Kifli improved by two positions to third, while MediaMarkt moved down to fourth. Kifli, apart from securing the overall third place, has also led the FMCG ranking for the second consecutive year, being the largest online grocery service in Hungary. In the FMCG TOP10 list, Tesco retained the second place, while Auchan’s online store moved up to third. The list of the largest Hungarian companies continues to be led by Euronics for the third year, with Aqua now the second largest Hungarian webshop, having made significant progress in 2023. Pepita has become the third largest Hungarian e-merchant and has shown the most growth among Hungarian e-merchants in the 2023 eTOPLISTA rankings.
