GKI: Deteriorating business expectations and improving consumer sentiment
May was the fifth month when the GKI-Erste economic sentiment index adjusted for seasonal effects remained unchanged, with some fluctuations, reflecting a relatively optimistic mood. According to the empirical survey conducted by GKI with the support of the EU, expectations declined slightly in the business sector, whereas they improved a bit among consumers compared to April.
However, with the exception of construction, the number of companies expecting improvement still slightly exceeds
those anticipating deterioration.
The sentiment index declined to 3.1 points, from the minus 2.9 points of April, while the business confidence index dropped from 4.9 points to 3.7 points, while the consumer confidence index improved in May from minus 25.0 points to minus 22.6 points.
