Giacomo Pedranzini: Animal welfare in practice
Since my parents were alpine shepherds and raised cattle, animals have been close to me since I was a small child. I have been living in Hungary for 28 years now, I run a meat industry company, keeping pigs and working with them is my life. For me, animal protection and animal welfare are concepts with real content and are part of my everyday life.
I know what it means to respect an animal, to overcome its basic needs, i.e. hunger, thirst, pain, disease, unnecessary discomfort, and to live without fear. In order for him to have enough living space, he should not be too hot, but also not cold, and there should be as little stress as possible, even during transport. That if he is sick, I must cure him so that he does not infect his companions and die. I constantly monitor international scientific studies, which are all aimed at keeping our animals in higher animal welfare conditions.
