Genetic engineering against swine flu
Swine flu causes respiratory disorders, fever, loss of appetite and negatively affects productivity. As is well known, in 2009 the disease spread from animals to humans and caused about 1 billion USD in losses to the pig sector – FarmingUK wrote. However, a recent study published by researchers at the Roslin Institute found that new gene engineering tools could complement existing prevention and control strategies. Scientists are of the opinion that genetic engineering technologies could be used to alter the genes in pigs in which the infection tends to develop, as has already been used in the treatment of other porcine diseases.
